My Blessed Thurday

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I've not been feeling well. I had to call off work the last two days...which is not good. Economy is not great, and I'm up for my annual review. No, not good at all.

I blame my doctor. My primary MD changed my prescripton that was given to me by my GI doctor. I shouldn't have listened, because I ended up with severe nausea and vomiting...again. So I'm starting to feel better as I've gone back to the original prescription & will be seeing the GI doc next. bah.

Well...that wasn't why I was going to post. But it will help to put the following in to perspective for me and, hopefully, you too! Now, I'm not sure I posted it here or not because I didn't check before I started writing this, but I was offered a signed book by Ann Aguirre last week! Which was just so wicked cool when it happened!

While tweeting, I let her know I'd finally read Grimspace & really enjoyed it, and proceeded to tell her how I couldn't find my copy of Wanderlust. I'm sure I bought it! Really, I did...but it's lost. Anyway, she offered to send me a copy, and it arrived today!! I've already started reading it...totally ignoring the rest of my TBR! It's awesome. I already have a quote I like! lol.

Included with the signed copy, was a signed bookmark, & thank you card...for reading her book! Is that just the coolest or what? *fangirl*

I was really just so blessed and it really gave my spirits a boost when I got that package in the mail today! Btw...I'm saving the postage. I'm making it into a bookmark somehow! lol wha? It's not like I get a package from Mexico everyday! But...yeah. ima dork. ;p

*sidebar* Must add that my squishies came for a visit yestereday! They are so....eeee! I just want to bite them! Such lil' hawties! And they're getting so big!! V is now wearing size 10 shoes! He's not even 3 yet! His cousin, A...my lil' grandniece I bake with...she's 5 and wears a size 10!! lol I tell ya, they're growing like weeds. I, V's twin, is the smaller of the two, but he's growing so much too! *misty* They are all such little terrors blessings. Don't know what I'd do without them in my life!

Back to today...this evening I found out that I won a copy of Men of the Otherworld by Kelley Armstrong through Bitten by Books! btw...I found Bitten by Books via twitter! I lovin' me some Twitter today! lol

Johnny Cupcakes

As you might have noticed, I've been browsing Twitter quite a bit lately. Amongst my "travels", I found this AWESOME Tshirt company!!

It's called Johnny Cupcakes. They have 3 locations nationwide, but it sounds like the company made it's start via word of mouth and the internet. The blog gives up the company's story which is quite interesting...and no, they do not make cupcakes. They make tshirts...but do give out cupcakes with purchase every so often, lol. Their logo is a wicked "skull & crossbones"...but the skull is a friggin' cupcake! BRILLIANT!! ♥♥♥

Johnny Cupcakes products are considered limited editions with different art, themes & even seasonal stuff. I happen to love tshirts and give them to my brothers often as gifts from places I go (Cafe de Monde in New Orleans), or odd stuff like our fave grinder shop, D'elias'!

Anyway, I haven't been feeling well the past few days, decided to do some browsing, & ended up doing some "Make Me Feel Better Shopping"! ^.~ I found that Johnny Cupcakes is having a sale on some of their tees in their last pressing. One of which is a Christmas tshirt that pays "homage" to A Christmas Story! This happens to be one of my lil' bro's fave Christmas movies....so I bought it for him for his next Christmas present!! It's our fave scene even...where the kid sticks his tongue on the ice-cold pole! I love it! I just hope it fits him since they only had an xlarge left! O.O





I really wanted a couple of tees but they no longer had my size or are sold out which I'm very bummed about! My first picks were the praying mittens and the jet dropping cupcake bombs...which are in their last pressing so I have no hope of getting them! Freaking awesome shirts though! Oh, I also want the beanie & gingham logo tee...which are currently sold out! I did buy myself the simple black gloves that has a small logo on them. yay! I'm tempted to buy my little niece a tee...we llluurrrv to bake cupcakes together!

*le sigh* I want them all...but my pocketbook says a resounding...OH, HHHELL NO! tis sad. very sad.

Sometimes it sucks to be me...

Ok. So, sometimes I complain too much. I admit it.

Can't be denied.

I realized this after the first of the year when a posterboard was put up on the unit...with pics of all the unit staff & a bubble with comments they make on a regular basis...or ones we don't let them live down.

Mine? "I'm not having a good day."

I was offended. And then I had to laugh...'cause it was true.

So, I guess my unofficial New Year's Resolution has been to complain less about the workload & the crap that gets dumped on us at the hospital. btw...It. Is. Hard.

Must say, I suck at not complaining. *le sigh*

Anyway, last week, I was on lunch and one of my charge nurses was in the breakroom with me. We talked & munched...and things going on on the unit came up. I distinctly remember saying..."I feel like we're (unit staff) used as guinea pigs (by administration)."

Well, today we had a staff meeting at which 3 top level administrators attended. They were there to give us praise for all the hard work we have done over the past year in being the 1st to launch a new process for patient care at the hospital. And that was grand. It was nice to hear.

But, one of the last comments made was that because we had done so well...we would now be considered "our GUINEA PIGS".

Since I'm not complaining, really. I'm not. I should let it be known that patient satisifaction for our unit has gone from the 7th percentile, at the end of '07, to the 90th percentile, in the 3rd quarter of '08!!

Oh, and for more good news...I went to the doctor today. My Hgb A1c was 5.5, and my fasting glucose was 108!


Also, the doc decided I need to have a physical. I said, "Um...ok, what does that entail?" He vaguely says, "Well, we do a complete check up." O.o

eeerr...ok.

I know better...he was being too evasive.
So when the medical assistant came in after the doc left, I asked her what it really entailed. She's informs me that I'll have a pap smear & a mammogram done.

O.O Oh, hells NO.

I left, made the appointment, with thoughts of never showing up.
Yup, that's me. Miss Passive Aggressive.
hhhmmm...has a nice ring. Wonder if there's a pagent for that?

So, I came home. I'd calmed down a bit. I tolded my auntie what went down. She's all wide-eyed and starts to warn me about the mammogram. I look at her like duuuhhh.

So then I tell her, "I think when I get there I'm gonna tell them I'll only do it if the doc's in there...and I get to squeeze his penis through it."

*snickers* She spewed water.
I feel better.
