Twitter Mug Contest

Owen @ http://www.u-g-h.com/ is giving away a mug with the pics of your twitter friends on it! It actually looks really cool!

Unfortunately, I don't have very many friends online, mine would look very skimpy on the pic department. *sigh* lol
Anyway, all you have to do is friend him at twitter & retweet his message he gives you or blog about it, which i'm doing now. Even if you don't have a twitter account, you could choose one of your friends who do, and he will use those friends for you....sounds like a cool gift!

Bookworm Award

Actually, this is a book meme really....which is fine with me!! lol

Nalini Singh tagged me the Bookworm Award, as I was one of the last 5 commentors on her blog! Wooohhoo!

Here's how it works: Open the book closest to you, not your favorite or most intellectual book, but the book closest to you at the moment, to page 56. Write out the fifth sentence, as well as two to five sentences following there. Then, you get to pass the Bookworm Award on to 5 people of your choice!

Book: What a Scoundrel Wants by Carrie Lofty...which I recently received from Ann Aguirre through one of her many awesome contests!

"It matters not. Nottingham's soldiers have been searching the forest for you, bullying and making arrests. We'll not go back to the days when the sheriff can toss apart our homes, when Robin isn't here to stand for us."

His pride shriveled like an apple left in the sun. Shortcomings dogged his every step, especially when faced with men who yet compared him to Robin. He needed no such reminders.

Not too bad, eh? lol

kk...here are my picks for the Bookworm Award:
Christine
DarlingDiva
Katiebabs
Blodeuedd83
Arathisiewen

Let's see what you keep near you!

Happy Thanksgiving!

I realize that I posted this as a comment to Christine, but I truly mean it and just want to share it with those who stop by and listen to me babble.

"Seriously, I'm thankful I met you, DD, the cellies, the bloggers, the minions, foodies...oh my, so many!

Although my life is not empty & I have family aplenty...you make my cup over-runneth.""

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

What to do about Thanksgiving...

Y'know...about my milk allergy. Well, maybe you don't know as there are really only a couple of peeps who stop by here.

A few weeks back...I became very ill.
And I'm sure it was my fault.
ok...it was my fault.

What with eating beignets almost every day I was in New Orleans and all...I figured that taking the benies every night would help. It did...for a while.

I was home for a couple weeks...and honestly, I try very hard to pay attention to what I'm eating, reading labels, asking what's in things...etc. Except for the beignets. *blushes* I don't even use "non-dairy" creamers in my coffee anymore due to the casein in them!

Anyway, I made some Betty Crocker peanut butter cookies. It had been well over a year since I've eaten them, but I truly didn't remember reacting to them! So the next morning, I have coffee...with my newly discovered flavored Splenda!...and promptly ate like 6-8 cookies (weren't very big and I like to dunk them).

Within about 1 hr, I knew I was in trouble! Mouth was tingling, tongue and back of throat started to feel thick, itching, GI symptoms ensued. I popped benedryl...and had to keep popping benedryl for 3 days straight!! I missed 3 days of work...which is a week's worth of work for me since I work 12-hr shifts!

Oy...that first night was the worst...perhaps that first time I ever felt I was having respiratory problems. I have family with asthma, and of course have worked with patients with respiratory problems...so I stayed calm...I knew I was getting air even though I was breathing a little off. So I chalked it up to anxiety...which still isn't good because it's our body's way of say "...Hey, dumbass...pay attention!!!"

I was NOT about to go into urgent care...the last time they told me I wasn't having a sinus problems and tried to gave me an allergy med for Hay Fever...which my allergist has clearly stated I'm not allergic too...maybe sensitive...but not allergic. So why go somewhere that believes it's all in my head, right? I couldn't get in to see my allergist, so I had to wait all weekend...hence, taking benies for 3 days...they throw me for a loop. Can imagine me trying to take care of patients??? O.o

So I finally got in to see my Allergist...he promptly scolded me for not going into urgent care or ER. He thinks I some how managed to max my "threshold" and my body just could not take it anymore after just one more cookie. *stupid sweet addiction. ok...beignets* He gave me a new-to-me med called Xyzal which is non-drowsy. Pretty much. And I've graduated to an epipen!! Yay me! *grumbles*

I have yet to pick up the epipen as my pharmacy had to order it...and life has gotten in the way of my picking it up. Needless to say, I've been very careful since. I'm thinking I should call the pharmacy in the am to see if they have it and just drag my procrastinating butt over there. ugh...I LOATHE driving over there unless it's for work.

I'm bound to end up eating something I shouldn't on Thursday. It's a family dinner...with milk to abound I'm sure. Mashed potatoes with milk, pies, goodies...and I'm sure there will be some mexican food with cheese aaalll ovah it!

My auntie said she would cook a bird since I asked...even though we don't need to. I just like the way she cooks for Turkey Day. I LOVE her stuffing! LOVELOVELOVEIT! We now put it in muffin tins so every one gets some crust...tip from Rachel Ray. lol We also do stuffing stuffed mushrooms...our version copped from Sandra Lee. lmao I will miss out on her greenbean casserole. I haven't spent time looking for a mushroom soup substitute. I love greenbean casserole. *pouts*

I'm like what should I do? Make my own meal (ok...help my Tia make me a meal)? Or trust I'll find something to eat and share dinner with all? I guess I could take microwaved potatoes with me so I can make my own mashed potatoes...I love potatoes. Definitely will take my own "butter" (Nucoa margarine). Making pumpkin bread...so I know I'll get one semi-sweet treat. Take my own vegie...since others will end up putting butter on theirs that I won't be able to eat. Rolls/bread...yeesh! Not even sure I should be eating my Stater Bro. brand anymore as I sometimes feel itchy/stuffy after eating it...it's manufactured where milk is used/processed.

I'm so pouting and ranting. Sorry everyone...just got to thinking about this as I was looking up my RSS feeds from foodies.

If I'm going to protect myself...I guess I'll have to take my own food...which so sucks. Thanksgiving is about the gratitude & family time...but it's also about the potluck food everyone brings to share! As much as I need to do it...it gets old asking peeps about every dish present..."Is there any milk or milk products in this? ...yeah...cheese, yogurt, butter, margarine, boxed mixes with milk proteins..." which is where I get glazed or irritated looks. *bone deep sigh*

And by the way...I'm still debating if the beignets were worth it. Well, Cafe du Monde stops were an essential part of my KCon experience after all! lol

I know...will I ever learn? ;p

Ima Twit!

lol...I've been meaning to follow others here and finally have!

btw...accidently found out that Sherrilyn Kenyon and some of her characters were there too...then I finally read her update about it!
*eye roll* So I need to catch up on my email...but I got distracted by the time suck that is Twitter today!

Then I started watching NCIS reruns...I so love that show!

It's where I get my "Gibbs Slap" from! lmao

I wasted my day away...need to bake for Turkey Day. Just making Nancy's Ancient Chinese Secret Pumpkin Bread. ;p

Nany's my baking buddy...well we haven't baked together in a couple of years really but for a few years she invited me to bake for the holidays with her. I got so many recipes from her! I still call her to ask for recipes. I love to just sit and look at her cookbooks! lmao

I love cookbooks. I just don't cook. o.O wha?
Like you don't have something useless that you collect...be it tins (yes...i collect tins), watches, purses, jewelry, shoes (I know a few of you...DD!), or books in general?! See...you do collect things that you don't necessarily need!

Anyway...back to my procrastination...which I'm a master at. *should hang head in shame...but refuse to!*

I can't find my recipe book that has the pumpkin bread recipe in it...I will be calling poor Nancy again tomorrow. See if I'd clean my space...organize my books, magazines, notebooks...office/bedroom...I'd know where the dayum thing was!! And I didn't spend time doing it today! yeesh.

ok...enough rambling. Night all!

I know what a scoundrel wants!

Let alone an owl...as of last night it was still alive....on my fence again. So I took pics!
Nnnatch.

Ok...so having been in a "darker" frame of mind, I thought immediately..."Uhoh...bad sign!"

Being from WY, we have screech owl, and I was always led to believe if you hear one at night at certain occurances, times, whatev...bad, very bad.

So that's where I went in my randomness.

I had my aunt come out as the owl did not seem to want to leave anytime soon...and her first words were..."OOO...good luck!"

I'm like..."Yeah? Sweet...we're going to Pechanga tomorrow!
Woohhoo!
We're gonna win!"

Needless to say...I lost my shorts.

Yeah. Only me.

But...I did decided to stop losing my feria and bought a sweet cross necklace! It's one of those fat squared crosses that looks like the first aid sign! See...schweeet! lol

Anyway...
About the owl...It keeps coming back. So I took the pic and when I downloaded the it earlier...I found my missing pics!!!

Promptly saved them, I did...and blessed the owl!
My good luck charm!
So my tia was right.
That's my story. And I'm sticking to it. *emphatic nod*

btw...here's the link to the missing pics...the password is the same as the one I gave you before.

More New Orleans trip pics...

Ok...so I've spent time today loading up my pics from my camera and cell to photobucket with organizing and titles. These pics are more of my touring New Orleans than of Kcon...which most are up on myspace.

If you'd like to see them, please drop me a line at my email or on myspace so I can give you the password to the link below. I realize this may be a pain in the behind, but I have never/rarely just openly put up pics of myself, friends, or family. Hope you understand.

New Orleans slideshow

btw...something interesting to note regarding the pics I took. I had a whole section of pics disappear!! They were of the Cemetary tour I took on Monday afternoon! Now...I realize that I may be a freak and some how deleted the things on accident...BUT...deleting over 160 pics!!! Nah uh...not happenin.

I distinctly remember taking the pics and looking at them through the tour...and just after the tour prior to saying goodbye to the tour guide, Renee. I remember because I had been meaning to get pics of the black street posts along almost every street in the Quarter...most were damaged but this particular street had a good 5-6 posts still intact with the horses heads on them. I so wanted that pic...it was one of the last pics, if not the last pic, I took with the tour guide in it! It was a great shot!

Now, the pics I took just prior to the tour commencing are there! We were waiting across the street from the tour guide and I took shots of the Pat O'Brien plaque and the Preservation Hall sign. We started the tour just after that! Pics # 422-587 are gone!!! Just gone. aaaaarrrrgh!

*le sigh* Just another awesome memory of the French Quarter and my journeys with the Haunted History Tour guides! lol

Also, if you DO NOT want your pic up for viewing...please let me know so that I may remove it! Thanks!!

I had such a great time there...hope to see you all next year...and maybe I'll be able to drag a few other friends along for the fun! *coughC&DDcough!!*

I fell in Love with New Orleans!

I'm back from KCon in New Orleans as of last night...I so did not want to return!

I met so many wonderful Minions at the convention, the people of New Orleans were truly hospitable and genuinely kind and helpful. I love the architecture in the Quarter, the tours given by Haunted History Tours were incredibly informative and entertaining without being schtikzy...loved it so much I took THREE of them! lol

But the people and the history...that's why I didn't want to leave.
I plan to go back again...for KCon if possible...but if not...I'll find a reason to go anyway! ^.~

Here's a street band I had the wonderful opportunity to hear while there on my first day out with Wendy and Christie, fellow Kcon-ers I'd just met that am. They are called Loose Marbles, who primarily perform out on the streets of New Orleans, NYC (I think), and possibly other places. I believe that's their main source of income...live performances with donations accepted.

Check them out on YouTube! Oh...I bought a CD.

If you like them...give them some support & buy a CD!! Here's their email (all the contact info they gave on their cd): loosemarbles@gmail.com

Hope you like them...and I hope to post pics & experiences soon! I took over 600 on my new digital camera! lol

BDB Insider Guide & Family stuff

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

I'm sssoooo excited!

I received my BDB newsletter and it said that it was out today...but I was at B&N and it was not out! gah!!
Good thing I hadn't seen the newsletter prior to going our I'd have freaked on them!

Was bummed because I couldn't find the Dark-Hunter Companion...which I need to buy so I can get it signed on my NOLA trip!! woooohhoo!

It is much needed. This past week has been tiring...and quite honestly...I was not directly related to M.

Wait...back up...I haven't posted about this...my sil's (2 of them/sisters) father died last Monday of a hemmorhagic stroke. It was so surprising. The funeral service was held on Friday. He will be cremated tomorrow. Last night my sil's mother passed out for a few seconds and she was ill. We think it was a low blood sugar, but they had already fed her some food. So her blood sugar was by the time I got there to check it, her BP was quite high. So they to her to the MD today. They will be watching her more closely, making sure she's eating and drinking, taking her meds...which she forgot to take. She needs to rest...which she wasn't as she's had so much company. They are a large family.
Poor thing...50 years they were together...9 children, 30+ grandchilren, plus greatgrandchildren!!

It's just been a long weekend...and I was even involved with very much. I can only begin to imagine what my sil's is going through. My brothers are taking it hard too.

I've got to get to bed...but was having a hard time doing so even though I've only had about 4 hrs of sleep since yesterday 0730. I'm not a spring chicken, my peeps. I do not do well on little sleep anymore.

Work the next two days and the weekend...I'm having a hard time finding time to plan my trip to New Orleans...and it's now less 2 weeks away!! oi...I keep thinking...I'm wiping out my savings!!
But I'm so excited to be going! I don't know if I'll ever do something like this again...so I'm going to enjoy it!!

ok...i'm babbling now...so I shall retire.
Blessing to all!

Acheron (Dark-Hunter Series, Book #25) Acheron by Sherrilyn Kenyon

My review

rating: 4 of 5 stars
Although I've read complaints about this book, I enjoyed it very much.

Probably because it was a D-H book that was ALL ASH!!!

I loved that we finally get to see Ash's "makings". His abuse of course was horrible, but I suppose that it makes his dedication to humanity seem all the more amazing to me. When he meets up with his HEA...I was like...FINALLY!!!

My "complaints"/wishes:

1. Less of the first half of the book. Mostly because I couldn't stand how he is repeatedly betrayed...especially his abuse by Artemis!

2. More of the relationship between Ash and Tory.

3. Tory would have more than just bitch-slapped the heiffer-goddess...preferrably the same death she allowed to happen to him. Over, and over, and over again. But hey, that's just me. ;p

Of Bugs & Squishies...

I'm such a spaz.

Ok...I'd been home for maybe an hour (2130), and was fixing to wash my dishes from today's work lunch. I grabbed the dish cloth and something started to flit up...I thought it was a moth. Yes, relatively harmless, but they make me squirm nonetheless.

So I holler at my tia to come see where the moth went...it may be on my back, right? Well, she comes up and starts the whole "Who's on First" routine with me...I don't see anything, what are you talking about, so on and so forth we go.

So I shake my hair and move about...and she says ominously...

"Don't move...you have a hhhuuuge ant on you."

WHA!?!

I proceed to squeal like a sissy lala girl & do the heeby geeby dance around the kitchen, while she's yelling at me to stop it...she now lost sight of the damn thing!

After some time of looking about the kitchen, I located the huge, red & black-speckled devil ant from hell with WINGS!!! on the fireplace bricks next to the fridge...and promptly smash it. I swear it was lying in wait for me at head level to try and nest in my hair!!

And to be sure it was dead...I washed it down the sink.

I'd have taken a picture 'cept I was not taking my eyes off it...in case it was doing a fly's dead possum act...and then sprung out of the sink to only land somewhere else to lie in wait & assail me!

I had to take a shower and scrub, I had the creepy crawlies so dang bad. *facepalm*

How can I be an RN and handle complete CSI moments with some of our dressing changes we do...and still be afraid of flying, stinging bugs or jumping, biting spiders, I ask you???

*sigh* It can be so embarassing.

Ironically...
My sis-in-law called last Thursday evening to tell me of the twins, aka squishies, new "We're getting big" episode.

She bought them new graham crackers in the shapes of bugs...yeeeaaah.

The oldest twin woke first, and she gave him one in the shape of a lady bug. She had him look at it...and he promptly threw it across the kitchen, yelling at the top of his lungs..."NNNNNOOOOO....BUG...PICA PICA!!!" (bite bite)
...and refused to take another until he saw her eating the "coo coo" first! But it still took a while.

Then the younger twin woke...and he was in the living room when he received his graham cracker cookie in the shape of some bug.

He threw his across the living room, yelling..."NNNNOOOO...BUG...DISGUSTING!!!"

...and refused to eat or touch the coo coo's until he saw his big brother munching on them. (btw...coo coo is squishy speak for cookie. lol)

They now both have these expressions where they put down their little heads and look up at you with their big eyes, eyebrows scrunched or with an eyebrow cocked up...I swear their saying..."ARE YOU CAAHRAZY!!!"

So not only did they have similar reactions to the bug coo coo's...they gave their mother these expressions and have trust issues with her...lmao...yes...the great social worker strikes again.

As for me and the bugs...

*big innocent eyes* ...I swear...I get it from THEM!

July music...in August...lol

There's always so much good music to listen to out there...so love the radio, even video channels, because of the variety.
btw...I usually post links to songs I've placed on my box.net files to share what I'm currently listening to over at my lj. Some of it's new music...some just new to me. Enjoy!!

New faves from x103.9:
Sitting at a Bar by Rehab
Inside the Fire by Disturbed
Love Me Dead by Ludo
This song so tickles my dark, sarcastic side...It so reminds me of You're a Mean One, Mr. Ginch! lmao

Lyrics Comparison

Love Me Dead...
Love me cancerously
Like a salt-sore soaked in the sea.
'High-maintenance' means
You're a gluttonous queen
Narcissistic and mean....
You're a faith-healer on T.V.
You're an office park without any trees
Corporate and cold
Gushing for gold
Leave me alone.
You suck so passionately
You're a parasitic, psycho, filthy creature
finger-bangin' my heart...
You've got the mark of the beast.
You're born of a jackal! You're beautiful!
You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch...
You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch.
You really are a heel.
You're as cuddly as a cactus,
You're as charming as an eel.
Mr. Grinch...
You're a vile one, Mr. Grinch.
You have termites in your smile.
You have all the tender sweetness
Of a seasick crocodile.
Mr. Grinch.

Given the choice between the two of you
I'd take the seasick crockodile.

ROTFLMAO...I LOVE IT! Of course, Ludo's song is a love/hate thing goin' on...but I love how the words are put together in both songs.

Heard/watched on some music video channel:
Mercy by Duffy
She's got an Old Motown sound, 50's-early 60's. I like it.

The following I stumbled upon...somewhere... O.O
Diary of Jane remix by Breaking Benjamin
I love this remix...it's slower, smoother...I love the piano in it! Breaking Benjamin, I must say, is quickly becoming a fave group of mine. I've had this one for a while, but I thought I'd share it with you anyway...Have a listen!!

Warmness of the Soul by Avenged Sevenfold
Driven Under by Seether
The Horror of Our Love by Ludo
I think I could really get into Ludo's music.

Last, but not least...some NIN! I realize this is probably not new to most who love NIN, but it's new to me. I so love this song...it's on my On the Go list on my Nano.
♥ ♥ ♥
Right Where it Belongs by NIN
**sorry, this file has to be downloaded if you want to hear it. I promise, I did not put a virus in it. 1st...because that's just mean. And 2nd...I'm just not that bright! ;p**

I should have stayed in bed today.

Ok...so I should have known something was up this am when I went into my bathroom to start my work am routine...and promptly dropped all of my q tips into my toilet. O.O

Yeah...so I'm at work for about 4 minutes, sit down to eat my wonderful strawberry soy yogurt. I open it and the foil seal spits out yogurt ALL OVER MY UNIFORM...

The papertowels...so not brauny. Shredded papertowel all up and down my top. *facepalm*

Then I proceed to start my day...I should have had a fireman's suit on...cause all I did for the first 2 hours was put out fires. aarrgh!

My poor patients are in pain, nauseous, wanting to go home...yes, it's a hospital...but daaayyuuuum...NOT all 5 patients at friggin' once have probs that immediately in the freakin' am. ugh.

So then I spend the rest of the day dropping phones, call lights, tripping on my patient's iv lines...yeah...one of the ones with a pain prob! Thank goodness none of my IV blew today. *looks to heaven*

So, I made it through my day, get home...and realize I have no uniforms for tomorrow. So I toss in a load of laundry. I've now hung my dry unis up...and for some reason they seems to have darker spots. But I'm tire now, and, yeah.

So, I'm sitting here ready to shut off the pc I turned on and never got too. Doing my nightly routine. Drink some water. Look for my green blistex lip balm...uuuuhhhhuuummm.

Yeah...it's missing...and I think I know why my unis now have dark greasy looking spots on them...

*le sigh* ...to bed.

My adventure in cooking last Thursday

Ok...so, a while back I post about my boss' pot roast that she made for a potluck. Well, I tried to make last Thursday.

Yeah...looked nothin' like it! argh

I have to say...it was due to the milk allergy and my lack of creativity in the kitchen. All brands of brown gravy packets at my local market had some form of milk in the darn things!! *sigh*

So, I went with the McCormick's Slow Cooker Savory Pot Roast packet. It did not make the thick gravy I so loved on the one my boss made. I will have to look for a gravy packet at Trader Joe's or Clark's some time.

Here are some pics of the process and results:

I used of beef brisket instead what the recipe called for because that's what I had on hand and didn't want to buy more meat. I'd never cooked one before and had forgotten what my tias had said about it needing to cook long, etc. Anyway, it was about 3.5 hrs in to the cooking and it seemed tough still, so I poured 1/2 a can of coke on it!!! lol
hey, it worked! Was tender in the end!

The ingredients I used. I decided I wanted veggies to make it a proper pot roast. Potatoes, celery, and carrots...which I preboiled for about 10 minutes before adding to the crockpot.

The result!

I liked it! For me, I'd reused the ingredients I used if I could not find the proper gravy packet. My tia however did not like it as much. She is very picky about her meat...must be VERY well done, or she grosses out. She did say she would prefer the brisket cooked in the oven. And she did after all eat it...even was going to eat leftovers, but me and my Tigger beat her to them the next day!!! lmao

In the next few days, I will be posting about the Portabello Pasta salad I made today! For now, must get to bed as I must be up before 5 am to get ready for work!

Have good a day everyone!

We're invited to a picnic!

Wooohooo! I love potlucks, picnics & bbq's...I've just never been to a virtual one before!!! lol

Here's the deal...Shaye at Smarter than Pancakes is holding a blog event for her birthday because...well, because she can!! ^.~

Here's the invite...

You'll find the deets at her invite post.

Ok...for this we need to bring a dish, drink, etc. Here's mine:

MY TIA'S PASTA SALAD!!!

No worries, people...I actually made it myself...this time!
Although normally...I would just beg my tia to make it for me! lol
However, in keeping with the event, I actually made it myself...with my very own short cuts!!! ^__^

Normally, the ingredients are as follows:
1 large bag, or 2 small bags, of rotini (cork screw) pasta, cooked al dente
1 head of broccoli florets, cut or break apart the florets into bite-size pieces
2-3 tomatoes, we usually use roma tomatoes, diced
1 med can of sliced black olives
1 small bag of shredded carrots
1 6-oz. tub, or 4-5 large, white mushrooms, diced
1 24-oz. Italian dressing, we use Wishbone

This is pretty simple to put together, as I found out today. My thing is that I usually overcook the pasta...but today I got it!
...and my auntie didn't even need to remind me! lol

1. Cook the pasta to al dente: My aunt told me to bring the water to boil first, then add salt to flavor the pasta. Bring to a boil again, then add the pasta and cook for about 8-10 minutes.

2. Prep the veggies while pasta cooking is going on, as described above.

3. Drain and cool the pasta.

4. Toss all the ingredients into a large bowl.

5. Pour the entire bottle of Italian dressing onto the ingredients, and toss.

6. Refrigerate for 1-2 hours. This finishes cooling off the pasta, and allows the dressing to be absored into all the little corkscrew crannies!!

Very tasty...and I'm not even particularly fond of dressing, but I eat this!!!

Tips, and family peculiarities...
Not everyone likes mushrooms, so we keep them separate in an airtight container and set them beside the pasta bowl. That way everyone can decide if they wish to toss some into their salad.

Also, my short cut today was that I didn't have all the ingredients, such as the mushrooms and individual carrots & broccoli! I had on hand a bag of California Slaw...which is a broccoli slaw with the florets in it. Love it!!
Oh...the slaw had red cabbage in it...I like the color, so I think I'll be adding that to the list of ingredients!

Also, since this is made sans mayo, it's relatively safe to keep out on the picnic table for a while...barring ants & other critters!!

Bon appetit!!

The Library Thing's "Popular Books" meme

Hey everyone...found this at Christine's blog....which is where I find most things lately! lol Of course, she found this at ....so on, and so forth...

I filled this out just to compare, but do not agree with the list completely. One of my lj friends has a different list. At some point, I will work on that one as well, and compare that list to this one...if I'm ever up to it! lol

So...how about you? How many have you read???

Happy Independence Day!!!

Well, not actually doing much today as I just got off 2 days of 12-hr shifts & return tomorrow for another 2 days of 12's. Need to rest.

Got up a little early and just poked around, made some papas and eggs. Lazed around some more. Went to the grocery and picked up some baby back ribs...mmmmm.

That's what I'm making right now, with corn on the cob & some nice french mixed waxed beans, green beans, & baby carrots. May pop some potatoes into the microwave, not sure. Will add the bbq after awhile....when my auntie says it's ok! lol

I'm so not a cook! I must have a recipe...and even then it's not a sure thing. I just can't seem to multitask in the kitchen!!!

Give me various patient's with multiple conditions, injuries, meds, dressing changes, tests, and all manner of things to coordinate ...and I'm good to go.

...but get me in the friggin' kitchen to cook food and I'm a MESS!!!
LMAO

Anyway...watching Celebrando el 4th de Julio con Christina. They just had a section with Wisin y Yandel, along with Gloria Estefan & David Bisbal doing their songs with them. Very good section!! Not watching right now as they are showing Enrique Iglesias...not a fave.

Anyway, here are the links to my box.net for a 2 of the 3 songs they sang.
No Llores by Gloria, W & Y
Torre de Babel by David, W & Y

The other song was Sexy Movimiento which for some reason can't find in my music list. Sorry.

Lastly, we had a baby shower potluck yesterday at work...lots of yummy food! Rotisserie chicken, steamed rolls (like egg roll), crispy asian cabbage salad, potato salad, mexican/spanish rice, candies, soda, fruit, veggie tray, and best of all a pot roast!!
OMG! it was so good...I asked my boss for the recipe! I apparently was the only brave one to do so...then, everyone wanted copies!! lmao

My Boss' Spicy Pot Roast (which isn't spicy hot...lol)
2-3 lbs beef pot roast (I used a chuck roast)
Salt and Pepper
3/4-oz packet Brown Gravy mix (I used McCormick brand)
1/4 cup Ketchup
2 tsp Dijon mustard
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/8 tsp garlic
1 cup water

1. Salt & pepper meat and place in slow cooker.
2. Combine remaining ingredients. Pour over meat.
3. Cover and cook on low 8-10 hours, or on high 4-5 hrs.

She arrived and set to cook between 7-8 am and it was ready by 1230!
Was very tender, and had a great mix of flavor...but then I like the gravy-salty-worcestershire/soy-saucey flavors!!!

I'm not a chef, and my palate is pretty simple...so not so good with the description!

I'm gonna give this a try...seems simple enough...not too much multitasking involved.
Right?
mmmhhhhm.

I claim illness...

Ok...was talking to my auntie and all of a sudden noticed a pile o books I purchased TWO WEEKENDS AGO!!!

*facepalm* I'd Gibbs slap myself but i already have a headache in the works!

So, I've been fighting these non-existant allergies/non-cold symptoms for almost 2 weeks now. Well, I was tired of being cooped up in the house, so I went to Wally world with my auntie because she needed to buy something or other. I proceded to the book aisle and did not pass go.

Here are my purchases:

This is sooo funny in a ditzy way because my friend DarlingDiva asked me just last night whether I had read Gena Showalters' books yet!

I was all, "No, but I saw a big poster @ Central Plaza for the series and want to read them..." ...or something to that affect.
*eyeroll*

Hello!!! I alread bought a couple of them! I think someone else asked me about the books! And Christine has been raving about Sugar Daddy for weeks...and I was like "I still need to buy it!"

Yeesh! And how the hell do I FORGET THAT I BOUGHT ODDIE???!!!

In HARDBACK! o.o

LMAO...I was discussing books with a patient just last Friday because he's a Dean Koontz fan. Again..."I need to buy Odd Hours." blahblahblah

What a yutz.

Book Nearest You meme...

Hey there, everyone!
The whole...two...peeps I know...here on blogger.
O.O

lolz

I've been tagged by Christine at The Happily Ever After... with the following meme:

Open the book nearest to you and open to page 123. Then post the 5th sentence. Very simple.

"Is it odd that it bugs me that we don't have to do anything with the number 4?" ...per Christine...'cuz she a lil crazy like that... O.O

So...C seemed to have a prob with leaving out the #4 and posted 2 lines, which I assume are the 4th & 5th sentence on page 123. Therefore, I shall do the same as she is the one who tagged me...
^__^

Here goes:
The closest book to me right now is...a friggin' stack of 'em!
But I will take the top one off... DARKLING! by Yasmine Galenorn.

Page 123...4th & 5th sentences...full sentences, per me:

"If I have to stake myself before letting that happen, I'll willingly do it."

"What say we stake Dredge instead?"

*claps* WOOT!! Good scene between Menolly and Roz!!! Love it!
Darkling is the 3rd novel in The Otherworld Series. I happen to love this series. The 4th book, Dragon Wytch, is due out on the shelves July 1st!!!

Wooohhhoo! Can't wait...so wanna Smokey!!!

So...I know like...two people here...Nancy & Christine. hmmm...and I'm guessing we can't pick the same people. So...I shall steal borrow some of C's commenters. lol...and I'll also pick a few from LiveJournal.
ooo...I lied...I know a couple more people!! ^.^

Because Christine did....

...Based on a True Story!!! WTH! o.O

Round Deux:

*facepalm* I so suck.

Let's try my icon lj name...

Now that...that has some promise... G.I. Jane has one of my fave quotes...*points to header*

Giggles for my girls...especially you, DarlingDiva!

Why Women Lie...

One day, when a seamstress was sewing while sitting close to a river, her thimble fell into the river. When she cried out, the Lord appeared and asked, "My dear child, why are you crying?"

The seamstress replied that her thimble had fallen into the water and that she needed it to help her husband in making a living for their family.

The Lord dipped His hand into the water and pulled out a golden thimble set with sapphires.

"Is this your thimble?" the Lord asked. The seamstress replied, "No."

The Lord again dipped into the river. He held out a golden thimble studded with rubies.

"Is this your thimble?" the Lord asked. Again, the seamstress replied, "No."

The Lord reached down again and came up with a leather thimble.

"Is this your thimble?" the Lord asked. The seamstress replied, "Yes."

The Lord was pleased with the woman's honesty and gave her all three thimbles to keep, and the seamstress went home happy.

Some years later, the seamstress was walking with her husband along the riverbank, and her husband fell into the river and disappeared under the water.

When she cried out, the Lord again appeared and asked her, "Why are you crying?"

"Oh Lord, my husband has fallen into the river!"

The Lord went down into the water and came up with George Clooney.

"Is this your husband?" the Lord asked.

"Yes!" cried the seamstress.

The Lord was furious. "You lied! That is an untruth!"

The seamstress replied, "Oh, forgive me, my Lord. It is a misunderstanding. You see, if I had said 'no' to George Clooney, you would have come up with Brad Pitt!

Then if I said 'no' to him, You would have come up with my husband. Had I then said 'yes,' You would have given me all three.

Lord, I'm not in the best of health and would not be able to take care of all three husbands!
So THAT'S why I said 'yes' to George Clooney."

And so the Lord let her keep him.

The moral of this story is:
Whenever a woman lies, it's for a good and honorable reason, and in the best interest of others.

That's our story.

...and we're sticking to it.

Signed,
All Us Women, Amen.

My 0715 wake up call this am....

...was an EARTHQUAKE!

It's quite disorienting to wake up to the sound of a very loud train coming at you...especially since I live about 4 blocks from one...and NEVER sounds that loud!!! Then of course the shaking hit.

Wasn't bad...just took me by surprise...which it shouldn't have as it was bound to happen with this extreme change in weather.
Anywho...all is well. No damages reported that I know of.

So, called my auntie & brothers...got most of them. Then called my moms...as she freaks, panics when she sees the news...then starts to frantically try and get ahold of us. Thought I'd head her off at the pass today as I am home.
She was thankful...especially since they just got back to Wyoming last night after just having been here visiting! Thank God for this...I don't think my stepdad or stepbrother could have handled it! O.O

Then I sat to watch the telly for a bit...and wonderfully came across DUNE!!! One of my all time faves!!! It was the one with Kyle MacLachlin, made back in 1984. I think we had just gotten cable back in 1985...must have been in the summer between junior high & high school. I remember driving my moms caahrazy...I watched at least 2 times a day, every day HBO aired it....ALL summer long! lmao

I had such a crush on Kyle MacLachlin back then! I so loved that movie!! This may have been my first sci-fi movie that I really enjoyed.

Also, I thought Virginia Madsen's character was so very pretty. I believe she narrates the movie. Most of all...I fell in love with her name.

Irulan.

I have NO idea why...I still love that name. If I should ever have a girl child, I would seriously consider naming her Irulan.

Is that odd? or an odd name...like...mean to give a child, so that she's picked on by other children? hhhmmm....my nickname would be Iri, pronounced eerie. heh. I so like that.

Ok...so I'm a bit odd. meh.

I leave you with this...

Mine to Possess

I could not find Doc Jess' book...well because I could not remember her friggin' name!!! gggaaahh! Then I couldn't remember the dayum title...Night something or other...Nightkeepers maybe? Or is that the name of the series...argh!

I went through every book of the romance section hoping to find a Jessica something with a cover I recognized... O.O

By the time I realized I needed serious help...it was time for check out. *sigh*

Besides...I think the B&N dude wasn't feeling my...OMG I CAN'T FIND PHURY...moment...
*snickers*

Weeelll....damn...it wasn't with the other BDB...wasn't in the 2 new books racks, which the B&N guy could not find EITHER...what the heck is a girl to do, I ask you???

...FREAK!!! THAT'S WHAT!

He finally found them at the FRONT OF THE STORE! on the backside of a display....*facepalm*

All is well, I have Phury. He will accompany to my CT tomorrow. I will take him into the room tomorrow...even if I can't read him, I will at least get to hang on to him while in the blasted chamber!!

*sigh* I don't like these tests much...Never had a CT but I imagine the chamber can't be that different from an MRI, which I've had a couple of...1 of my right knee and 1 of my head...yeah that was special!! O.O

Thank God I'm not particularly claustrophobic or I'd have some serious probs tomorrow.

*deep yoga breath*
*lets out the air slowly* sss'all goood...I got Phury...
I'm gonna be just fine!

Also...I keep finding books in series I want to read...but they're like the 3rd or 4th dang book...*hrumph*

I suppose that is good as the TBR pile in now beginning to topple!
^__^

Ok...need to get ready for bed as I must be up early to get to my test by 0800.

Oh! btw...I bought a new book mark!!! See it there at the bottom of the books? It says "believe"....I bought it to remember Criss Angel's Believe with Cirque du Soleil is coming soon!!

It is to remind me that I want to go....which means that I need to save $$$!!

p.s. Shooot! I forgot to look for The Host by Stephanie Meyer!

Ka by Cirque du Soleil

"KÀ tells the vibrant, epic saga of separated twin heirs — a boy and a girl — who embark on a perilous journey to fulfil their linked destinies..."

I was so excited to see Ka by Cirque du Soleil!!!

It was my first Cirque show ever...and I was just in awe of them! The performances, the stage, lighting, sound...everything!!

There was no actual "stage"...it was moving platforms & props. The battle scene was FREAKING AWESOME! It was totally VERTICAL! When the perfomers stepped on the vertical platform, it looked like they were stepping on water because the lights cause a ripple effect...so very cool! And the sound...lmao! At the very beginning...I was like...oooo...what was that! So very detailed...so much going on. I turned my head at one point...and then I realized the SEATS had speakers IN them!!! Talk about surround sound! Wow.

So give it a rating!

I've always wanted to go to a show when I was in Las Vegas, but didn't because I had no one to go with! Well, this year I went with my aunts and cousin to Vegas again. I went off exploring by myself again and ended up at the Bellagio's Cirque store where I was listening to the soundtraks. I fell in love with the music, most especially Ka's soundtrak!

I bought it!!! ^__^ Here's the link to my box.net: KA Soundtrak

Unfortunately, the links to the songs are not allowing the option to just play the songs...you must download them to hear them. Well worth the time to do so...imho! lol

Here's a link to the MGM Grand's Ka page. It has a small commercial clip for the show...which is wonderful in it's self, but the show... O.O

Photos were not allowed in the theater. So no pics of the inside of the theater for me!! lol But I did take a couple of pics outside the theater and of a couple of the poster out in the MGM.

disclaimer: I only have a camera on my cell...so pic quality is not so hot. *blushes*

Ticket office where I happily handed over $160+ for my dead center, 4th row seat! *grins like a mad woman*

Cirque store for Ka at the MGM Grand...each hotel that had a Cirque show has it's own store dedicated to that particular show's merchandise.

Just as you walk in you see the wall of the theater which is made of wood and looks like the hull of a ship. Where you see that purplish light is the bar/snack shop.

Posters out in the MGM.

I realize that the money I spent was quite a bit. I could have paid off a bill or something very wise like that....but "What happens in Vegas...stays in Vegas"!

O.O ...like my money!!! lmao

However, I thoroughly enjoyed myself! Besides...I used my "Economic Stimulus" money to pay for the show!!! ^__^

Now that I've been to a Cirque show....I want to see Criss Angel's Believe even more!!! WOOT!!! Vegas here I come again this Fall!!!

I've been wanting to go to see this show this Fall...perhaps not to it's premier...but definitely want to see it sooner rather than later!!! I'm completely looking forward to it!!

Ok...that is enough for now. I found pics and some vid clips of the show via isearching...may post them for all later.
